Butler Township approves two proposed JEDZ in special election

Despite opposition from a local developer, Butler Township voters approved a proposal to create a hotel district joint economic development zone (JEDZ) as well as a business district JEDZ between the township and the City of Vandalia during a special election last week, Dayton Daily News reports. The plan for these economic development vehicles is to "assign a one percent corporate tax and a one percent employee income tax" in designated areas, which will be used to "help the township preserve funding for the township's police department and job cuts to the policy and road department” and to ensure that the township remains competitive for future development, the article said.
